The Riverfront Character Inn and International Conference Center
… (formerly Ramada Plaza), held its grand opening in October
and hosted its first Character Building Seminar in November.
The Inn’s new owners, the Institute
in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), have made and continue to make
significant structural and cosmetic changes to the downtown property.
The lobby, minus its former fountain and escalators, is now more
open and spacious. The addition of rich wainscoting, sparkling mirrors,
a fireplace, new red carpeting, and white furnishings creates an
ambiance like that of a warm, welcoming living room. Plans are in
the works to install a waterfall from the second floor into the
lobby.
General Manager Emmett Mitchell tells us that the Character Inn
will concentrate on accommodating group sales, conventions and conferences
who’s attendees will stay in the hotel.
Most of the Character Inn staff is made up of volunteers, individuals
and families from all over the United States who are alumni of and
subscribers to the IBLP program. Some are in Flint on a temporary
basis, while others plan to relocate here.
Future plans for Character Inn include the opening of an on-site
restaurant that will be open to the public.
